The IFSA is excited to announce the successful start of the 2010 Junior Freeskiing Tour last weekend at the COWBOY UP Freeskiing Challenge at Stevens Pass, WA. Despite the challenges of dealing with the fog, judges and athletes worked to make the event happen by laying down some great skiing and judging on slope with a split judging format in very difficult visibility. This is never the Ideal format and is always the last resort when weather happens.

The organizers and judges would like to thank all the athletes that competed for their excitement and passion and all the coaches and parents for their enthusiasm and support for these young athletes. With everyone working together we were able to get 2 runs in on Sunday and get this event completed rather than the alternative of canceling the event all together. We appreciate your sportsmanship and understanding with the adverse conditions combined with a subjective format. We as organizers and judges work extremely hard to provide these events and opportunities for the juniors and all freeskiing athletes and appreciate everyone for being a part of it. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the next JFT event.

Snow conditions are favourable with a powder and packed powder surface. This quality base is only expected to improve with more snow in the forecast. These made to order conditions are perfect for another year of competition.

Spectators are welcome to oooh and ahhh at this awesome display of talent. Watch the qualifier on Link's Line from the Motherlode Chair or the base of Link's. Settle in on Southside Road or Ledges to have a fabulous view of the finals on Mount Robbie. Don't forget your binoculars and cheering spirit!

Happy Holidays! We are looking forward to seeing you next week. In this athlete letter you will find information that is helpful for the Canadian Freeskiing Championships at Revelstoke.

Registration

Registration will take place at the Mid-Mountain Lodge on Wednesday for all athletes and Thursday for prequalified athletes. Revelation Gondola, a seven-minute ride from the base of Nelsen Lodge, accesses Mid-Mountain Lodge. To load the gondola, you must obtain a free wristband from the Nelsen Lodge by signing a waiver. The wristband will grant you access to load the gondola to Mid Mountain Lodge only. You can purchase lift tickets at registration.

As a key reminder, athletes must have health insurance to compete in any Subaru Freeskiing World Tour event. Please have a copy of your insurance card with you, you will need to leave this copy with Revelstoke Mountain Resort at registration.

At registration you will receive an event credential. Please do not lose your credential; you will not receive a replacement. This credential will yield you access to events, parties, and discounts during the event.

We just wanted to remind everyone that IFSA Membership is required for all Freeskiing World Tour events, Junior Freeskiing Tour events as well as all FWT Qualifiers (CRYSTAL, RED, TELLURIDE, LK LOUISE). We ask that you get your membership current before the first of the year or your price goes up $10! DO IT TODAY!

Also there has been a change to the JUNIOR FREESKIING TOUR. Stevens Pass "COWBOY UP" event is now an official JFT stop awarding FULL Points to athletes for the NA Overall. KIRKWOOD will host a ONE day event on Sunday, Feb 28th 2010. This event will award HALF points towards the overall NA title.

The IFSA is excited to get the 2010 season off to a huge start. Event registration goes live tomorrow Dec 8th, 2009. Events will fill up fast so be ready!

the season will kick off with 2 huge events that will draw the best of freeskiing to Canada. The Canadian Freeskiing Championships returns at Revelstoke, BC. The 2nd stop of the FWT will attract the top athletes of the tour as they work to earn points for the "McConkey Cup".

The first tour established specifically for up-and-coming athletes, age categories for the Junior Freeskiing Tour include girls and boys ages 12-14 and 15-17.

Registration for the Junior Freeskiing Tour will be open by December 14th 2009 at 10:00am Mountain Time.

Canada’s Longest Running Big Mountain National Championship Dedicated to Captain Jack Carey

ROSSLAND, B.C. – The Canadian Open Freeskiing Championship returns to RED Mountain Resort this January for a ninth year of spectacular big mountain freeskiing action. Skiers in Junior and Open Senior categories will compete on RED’s diverse and challenging terrain in what promises to be another epic championship.
