Roster of Freeride Junior World Championship riders unveiled!

The FJWC is just around the corner! Check out the complete roster of the best junior riders in the world competing at the most important event in Junior freeride!

On February 5, 2017, the ski resort of Grandvalira, Andorra, will welcome over sixty youth riders aged 15-18 for the most prestigious junior championship event in the sport of freeride. The earthshaking level of talent that made last year’s event unforgettable will once again face off at the Pyrenean epicenter of freeride.

Young skiers and snowboarders have earned their invitation for this championship by their past results in Freeride Junior events and will represent over 15 nations hailing from Europe, North America, and Oceania.

SKI MEN

The ski men field is completely stacked with talent – including the best international players in freestyle and big mountain – with Finn Bilous (NZL), the silver medal Youth Olympian in half-pipe, Arthur Raskin (FRA), one of the strongest emerging big-mountain riders, and Cooper Bathgate (CAN), with big-mountain skills on par with his twin brother who won the 2016 FJWC. Incoming rookies like Alyeska, AK local Leif Mumma (USA) are rising up through the IFSA North American Series and are hungry to make a name for themselves.

SKI WOMEN

Last year we saw tons of impressive riding from the ski ladies and this year we will see it again with Illona Carlod (FRA), the protégée of freeskiing legend Seb Michaud. Hard charger Eva Battolla (SUI) will show us how hard these girls can push it after her summer of downhill mountain bike training. The European ladies will have to compete against America’s top female skier from Squaw Valley, USA, Mia Winans (USA), the champion of the 2016 North American Junior Series.

SNOWBOARD MEN

Nobody has been riding more consistently than Liam Rivera (MEX), who has been stacking podiums left and right over the last few seasons, earning overall FJT champion last year. However, Loic Aubert (SUI) might give him a run for his money with his solid riding as long as he picks the right line. Both of these riders will have their eyes on Jake Terry (GBR) who has been shredding hard in Switzerland so he can perfect his freestyle tricks. Despite all these challengers, 2016 FJWC winner Pep Naudi (AND) shows that competing on your home turf has its advantages.

SNOWBOARD WOMEN

There are two names to watch this year in the snowboard women field: Ellie Soutter (GBR), the halfpipe, boardercross rider, and 2016 FJT champion; and Jazmine Erta (ITA) who has taken the overall FJWC title two times in a row. These two will face renewed competition from their North American challengers: the rookie Heidi Farmer (CAN) and 2016 North American champion Stacy Gaskill (USA).

The raw talent displayed at last year’s event truly gave the elite FWT riders a run for their money, so don’t miss your chance to witness the future of freeride!
