THIS EVENT IN JUNE of 2023 IS THE FIRST IFSA JUNIOR REGIONAL SERIES 2*
EVENT FOR THE UPCOMING 2023-2024 SEASON IN REGION 2. 

Points earned at this competition will count toward your 2024 IFSA Overall Ranking. The IFSA Board of Directors will soon be sharing the 2023-2024 Junior Series Updates, which will impact how many finishes a junior athlete may collect and which events they attend.

2024 Athlete and Coach Memberships will open soon and details about the 2024 series changes are forthcoming.

WHAT IS BEARTOOTH BASIN?

Experience skiing and snowboarding on the edge

Beartooth Basin in a tiny summer ski area that operates within a north-facing bowl along the infamous and jaw dropping Beartooth Highway. Mountain goats frequent the scene and glorious sunshine lends a festive air to the atmosphere. Race crews train gates and moguls teams smash bumps while Freeriders send big lines and daring drops on the basin's left flank. We're all chasing different dreams in the mountains but the common thread here at Beartooth is a passionate love for skiing and snowboarding. 

Beartooth Basin is discreetly tucked along the highway near the Montana-Wyoming border. Blink and you'll miss it as the ticket office (an old Argosy trailer) and merch truck (a converted food truck) are the only visible infrastructure nestled in the small parking lot. Peer over the edge and you'll spy Beartooth's 2 platter tows and a dizzyingly steep slope littered with cornices, cliffs, rocks, drops, and breathtaking views.


      

Beartooth is far out of the way, rugged, remote, and the weather unpredictable. It's not infrequent to see a road closure in June or July thanks to a fearsome blizzard. At Beartooth you'll need to be prepared for anything. But most of all, be prepared to experience the true soul and essence of what winter lovers crave. In addition to turns at the basin, there is a huge amount of walk-to backcountry terrain, north facing headwalls and summer snowfields to explore and enjoy. Be sure to bring your avalanche gear and your backcountry savvy to make the most of this unique and beautiful area.  

Intrepid Freeriders and their friends and family may opt to camp in Rock Creek Canyon, (Forest Road 2421), but don't forget your bear spray! This is definitely bear country and campers need to be prepared with bear boxes and responsible camping etiquette. Established camping sites can be located at Parkside, Limber Pine, or Rattin Campground facilities.

Additional lodging can be found in Red Lodge, Montana (about 45 mins from the ski area) from the Red Lodge KOA Campground to the Yodeler Motel and local vacation rentals. 

Please note that due to the location of Beartooth Basin and the specific snow and weather conditions needed for June operations, this event is condition-dependent. Road closures, competition delays, and weather holds are entirely possible.

Pack your avalanche gear and layers for EVERY type of weather.

Regardless of what Mother Nature delivers, you will have an unforgettable blast at this unique event in a stunning location.
