Nevados de Chillan FWQ 2* Event Rescheduled For Antillanca
Marginal snow conditions combined with an unfavorable weather report forces cancellation and relocation of first FWQ event of the season in the Andes. Rescheduled competition to take place at Antillanca, August 16-20, 2017.
With marginal snow conditions and a storm threatening to produce low visibility and less than optimal competition conditions, the 2* Freeride World Qualifying event scheduled for August 10-13th at Nevados de Chillan has been cancelled and rescheduled for Antillanca.
“Given the snow and weather conditions as well as the condition of the proposed venue along with some technical issues, we decided to be proactive and to move the opening event of the 2018 Andes freeriding season to Antillanca. We would like to thank Nevados de Chillan for their hard work and efforts, and while we are disappointed that an event is not going to happen there this season, we’re really excited to have a full schedule with two events at Antillanca from August 15th to 20th to kick things off this year."
-Freeride Chile’s Fernando Ochagavia.
Obviously this news will come as a disappointment to many, who were looking forward to experiencing the unique terrain of Nevados de Chillan. However, the current conditions along with an uncompromising weather forecast have combined to make an attempt at holding an event at Nevados de Chillan unlikely to succeed. Because of this, event organizers have decided to reschedule the event to Antillanca in August to ensure a successful event and give athletes the best opportunity to accrue FWQ points. For athletes and spectators, here is what you need to know...
Antillanca and the rescheduled Nevados de Chillan event:
Antillanca will now host two 2* FWQ competitions. These events will take place on different days during the weather window for the events, August 16 to 20. The two events will be called Comp 1 (the rescheduled Nevados de Chillan event) and Comp 2 (the event that has always been scheduled for Antillanca).
Any athlete who as already inscribed for the Nevados de Chillan event will be automatically inscribed for Comp 1 at Antillanca, at no extra cost.
Any athlete who was inscribed for Nevados de Chillan who cannot compete in Comp 1 at Antillanca can request a full refund of their inscription fee.
There is still space for athletes in Comp 2 at Antillanca, so if you were going to compete in Nevados de Chillan and were waiting to enter the previously scheduled Antillanca event (Comp 2), you will have the opportunity to compete in two events during the competition window for Antillanca.
Likewise, if you were going to only compete at Antillanca and had not inscribed to compete at Nevados de Chillan, you now have the opportunity to add another FWQ event to your schedule by inscribing for Comp 1 (the rescheduled Nevados de Chillan event).
Registration for both events will remain open on Member Pro until. August 11.
