2019 IFSA Junior Membership Guidelines

Dear Parents, Coaches, and IFSA Freeride Athletes,

Welcome to the 2019 Season of competitive freeride! We have over 50 events scheduled across the US and Canada for Junior athletes this year. To see a current schedule, please view our event pages and check back later in the season as we begin to add more details for each competition.

If you are NEW to IFSA Competitive Freeride events, please see our Welcome To Freeride primer.

For a refresher on the rules and rankings for the IFSA Junior Series, please see our Junior Freeride Handbook

Age Requirements

IMPORTANT: Your first step to compete this year begins with purchasing your IFSA Membership. Please note that in 2017 we simplified the age parameters for each junior division to prevent mistakes and confusion as we upload rankings after each event.

Athlete Age Divisions are as Follows:

  • Athletes 11 years of age or younger on December 31st are eligible for the U12 category
  • Athletes 12-14 years of age on or prior to December 31st are eligible for the 12-14 age category
  • Athletes 15 years of age or older on December 31st are eligible for the 15-18 age category*

* Athletes 18 years of age have the option to compete in FWQ Adult/Collegiate Series OR they may choose to remain in the IFSA Junior Series. Once an athlete competes in an FWQ Adult event OR turns 19 years of age, they cannot compete as an IFSA Junior. Athletes competing in junior events will compete in the age category that relates to their age as of December 31.
