You may think the competitive Freeride season in North America is over...but you'd be wrong! Before you schedule out your summer plans, don't forget to make room for the legendary Beartooth Basin competitions. We have a Junior Regional Series event for younger freeriders and the Summer Shredfest in conjunction with an IFSA FWQ 2* event for adults. The unique location and character of Beartooth Basin guarantee a memorable experience in terrain like you've never seen before! Note the dates below and get ready to register. Due to the highly unpredictable weather patterns in this region, be ready for just about ANYTHING from lightning, to sunshine, blizzards, potential comp delays, and spontaneous dance parties...
REMEMBER: THIS EVENT IN JUNE of 2018 IS THE FIRST COMPETITION OF THE IFSA 2018-2019 SEASON FOR BOTH JUNIOR AND ADULT ATHLETES.
Points earned at the IFSA FWQ 2* competition will count toward an adult athlete's current FWQ ranking. If you are a junior competitor, the Beartooth Regional Series event will count as one of your FIRST THREE regional scores and the points earned will be added to your 2018-2019 ranking. Last season's Beartooth events were confronted by wild weather, but the determination of the Beartooth crew and the spirited athletes prevailed over Mother Nature's whims. Yes, that included heavy snow in June! The high elevation and rugged terrain of Beartooth Pass, located to the northeast of Yellowstone National Park, creates exciting weather patterns contrasted with the dramatic scenery. With a historic snowfall this winter, Beartooth is perfectly primed for an epic 2018 summer season. When packing, make sure to include an outfit for every climate, as the unpredictable nature of this area will shock and amaze.
In June of 2017, while our Junior Regional event was on delay due to snow and road closures, the crew took plentiful backcountry laps down the Rock Creek Headwall. A short jaunt across the colorful tundra led riders to the steep drop of the Headwall. The snowfield permits riders to hop off along one of the many hairpin turns along the Beartooth Highway, setting up a near perfect shuttle loop. The snowfall is so deep this year that the backcountry access is bound to be fantastic.
Intrepid Freeriders and their friends and family may opt to camp in Rock Creek Canyon, (Forest Road 2421), but don't forget your bear spray! Established camping sites can be located at Parkside, Limber Pine, or Rattin Campground facilities. A discount for competitors will be provided by the Red Lodge KOA Campground. Additional lodging can be found in Red Lodge, Montana (about 45 mins from the ski area) and discounts for athletes are offered at the Yodeler Motel.

Beartooth Basin IFSA FWQ 2* Summer Shredfest - June 14-17, 2018
Summer Shredfest is a three-day ski and snowboarding festival running from June 14-17, 2018. Celebrating mountain community, culture, and competition at one of North America's most unique ski areas, Summer Shredfest is presented by Beartooth Basin with support from the Mountain Rider’s Alliance (MRA) and includes a whiskey tasting festival, an IFSA FWQ 2* competitive Freeride event and North America’s ONLY summer skiing demo event showcasing the best custom, boutique and unique ski and snowboard brands!
